Rep Council Highlights from December 7th:

Negotiations: Bargaining has begun again. District proposals include increasing K-3 class size up to 28, and up to a five day furlough. Keep in mind this is positional bargaining, meaning these can be seen as more of a wish list than realistic proposals. A Broadside with details on all proposals will be out in the next several days.

Charter Schools: With Voices already here, Cornerstone opening doors in August, and Rocketship likely the year after that, Rep Council passed a motion saying: "FMEA opposes any new independent charter schools in our district until there has been time for critical examination of their effectiveness and impact."

Special Board Meeting: This coming Tuesday, December 15th at 6pm. The District will be hearing a report that compares our costs to similar districts. This will be an interesting meeting so come if you can.

Communication Focus Group: This Committee (formerly the Lesson Plan Committee) meets monthly with Ed Services to give teacher input on  topics such as collaboration and data meetings, paper work, lesson plans, schedules and regrouping. If you want to be involved please get in touch with your Site Rep. The next meeting is this coming Monday at 4pm in the Media Lab.

Grievance Chair:  Because it seemed that the position was an unnecessary expense as long as the association has a full-time president, Reps voted to collapse the position of Grievance Chair as long as there is a full-time president. This will be effective January 1st, 2010.
