Grievance Grove

There is a step 2 class size grievance at Hellyer.

There are several grievances in place at Sylvandale regarding the repeated failure of principals to notify all teachers of students who have been suspended or engaged in suspendable activities. Such activities include students who  "Disrupted school activities or otherwise willfully defied the valid authority of supervisors, teachers..." (Ed Code 48900 K).  According to The Contract  "All staff at the school site shall be notified by the site administrator in person prior to receiving a student who has been charged or convicted of a suspendable/expellable offense." (7.3.1).

There is a step 2 grievance at Shirakawa involving a teacher who received a letter of reprimand without due process. The principal did not cite any just cause or chargeable offense as required by the contract and the law.

An arbitration involving an unverified letter of reprimand placed in a teachers file is scheduled to proceed on June 19th.  There is no date set yet for a second arbitration regarding middle school teachers being forced to sub during their prep more than three times.

4.6.1.1-Daily Instructional Minutes

"Staff at the K-5, K-6, K-7, K-8 and Middle Schools grade levels shall form a joint committee with the site administrator to prepare a plan for providing the daily instructional  minutes...The plan shall be presented to the local staff.  Should the staff be unable to reach agreement through a majority vote, the issue shall be referred to the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services."

This means your site should have teachers involved with drafting a plan for next year's minutes and you should be given the opportunity to vote on the plan.  Let your Site Rep know if this does not occur.
